Congratulations to John Limer on his 80th Birthday

Roger EleyNews

After Mass on Sunday 17th December the parish celebrated JohnLimer’s 80th Birthday.

John was joined by his family and many freinds and sisters from the Sisters of Mercy convent.

His family assisted with the service with his grandchildren read the bidding prayers and offertory procession. Sr. Maureen and Catherine read and Meidbin sang the responsorial psalm beautifully. Joan, Sr Francis and Catherine were Eucharistic ministers.

After mass everyone was invited into the Church Hall for a buffet, drinks and cake. Fr Kelly thanked John for all his work in the parish and Sr. Maureen, who is John’s sister, spoke on behlaf of the family recognising how interlinked the family and parish are. Afterwards the family then went on for an Indian meal in Low Fell

John and Joan were “founder” memebers of the parish. Over the years they’ve both worked tirelessly for the parish. John being on the Finance Committee, a Counter and having run the 200 Club with Jim Birney for many years. To recognise this Fred Watson, on behalf of the parish, presented John with a pewter Quaich, a Gaelic drinking cup, to thank him for all his hard work over years raising an incredible amount of money for the parish.

In the years when we were all a lot younger John organised and called the dances at parish ceilidhs. Even though there were few “dancers” in the parish John managed to keep everyone organised or at least going in the right direction.

Thanks John wishing you many more years.
